Real Upper Secondary school is to be found in several cities in Sweden. It was established in 2003 and has about 1300 students and approximately 250 employees. Students attend the programme of: Natural Resource, Handicraft, Energy and Electricity or the programme of Engineering.
We are working according to modern pedagogy, which means that we work and build, from and on, the students´ interest. Students do choose a programme which fits his/her interest: Stylist, Horse Keeping, Nature Guide, Animal care, IT-technician and so on. We study by integrating subjects and solving problems by working in projects and team. Our students are therefore familiar with cooperation, problem solving and the need of taking initiative. Furthermore they practice their social skills very thoroughly since they work in teams.
Reality is our key
We often change classrooms for the surrounding world or bring reality into the classroom by using lecturers from the business world. By doing so we ensure that what we teach is in accordance with reality and current business life. Our students are introduced to and given information concerning running a business and are attending several weeks at a trainee post as trainees during their time at Real Upper Secondary School. This gives them valuable competences and contacts when it comes to their future working life. As a student you will also have access to a transportable computer and it is used as a working tool and as a source of information.
The Global Business World
The business world, locally, regionally and nationally, are very valuable sources of information and guidelines on how to develop Real Upper Secondary School in accordance with reality. But we believe that we need to compare the local, regional and national business to the international business world. This perspective is crucial to our students and to our school. We really appreciate international partners as a practice partner or as a partner within an internet based project. We are willing to learn from others and share what we know in order to be a part of the global business development and in order to teach and show our students how to act and behave within the global world.
Mentor
We focus as much on personal development as on developing competences within different subjects. At our school students have a mentor who supports the student as a grown up and a person to talk to. The mentor is not teaching, hence there is no grade relation, and students will more likely feel free to talk about anything and by doing so he/she is finding a grown-up to share thoughts and worries with. This strengthens the feeling of safety at school, which we really believe in being a factor for succeeding, learning new things and developing as a person as well as an individual.
